Farm inspection

We were invited to test a relatively new building for personnel of the farm. An owner decided to make some renovation due to the very low thermal insulation and high expenses for heating in the winter period.

Below there are some pictured of the building made with infrared camera. We also used to depressurize the building to clearly see the problems caused with air infiltration trough a roof. Without the blowerdoor they might not be seen or would be seen only from the outer side of the roof. But it’s sometimes difficult to reach. Or, as it was this time, the roof was covered with snow.

So, what has been found?

Outside view to the building.

The main problem we found was that a ceiling of the ground flor was not properly insulated. A lot of warm air goes through it up due to convection. Blower door creates a negative pressure with the difference not exceeding 50 Pa required for the test. Cold air from poutside is seen very clearly as dark blue stripes at the thermal image/

Another evidence of the similar problem at a side wall.

Outer wall insulation is not sufficient. We can see several cold spots. A floor near the wall is also very cold.

An outer wall in another room is significantly colder than the other surfaces.

Problems of window installation are located under the decorative finish. There were cold bridge along the frame detected as well as several places of cold air infiltration.

Finally, it a nice image of a horse. She looks healthy!
